This extraordinary Berlin-based record company always keeps an eye and ear open for interesting music with integrity. The label ranges in its coverage from the eastern province of Cuba to the Indian subcontinent; from klezmer to tango; from cabaret singers to national legends. Oriente is not fixed on a certain genre, but rather on a certain quality and a certain approach to music. The company has rescued the works of legends, such as the Russian gypsy songs Pjotr Leschenko (1930s) and the Turkish tango of Ibrahim Özgür (1940s).
